Dirty Tricks: Democrats Release Sarah Palin's Social Security Number

Just When You Thought They Couldn't Reach Any Lower

Editors published 9/2/2008 8:13:00 PM
RedState.com says:
The Politico has received an opposition research file from the Alaska Democrats. You can read it in PDF [update: taken taken down]. In the file, the Democrats have released Sarah Palin's social security number minus the last four digits. Also tied to the information are her various home addresses. Back in 2005, Democrats used Michael Steele's social security number to get his credit record. It is atrocious that the Democrats would not only seek out Sarah Palin's social security number, but release it in opposition research to the press.
We call on Barack Obama to stop this madness and fire the people responsible for these dirty tricks.

Update: 9/2/2008 10pm EST

Politico has replaced the original PDF with a a PDF with redacted Social Security number.

They're being allot more obvious about sarah than they were with Hillary!

They left out her last 4 digits. So- they did NOT release her ssn.
Why do you call on Obama to stop something he didn't do? I call on you to stop Republicans from promising to overturn Roe V. Wade.

Wow Christina your a Genius. Think for about 5 seconds before you respond to defend you new God. How many combinations will it take to figure out the last 4 numbers of someones SSN compared to how many combinations one must try to crack someone's entire SSN? I'll wait to see if you can do simple math.

If this PDF file were so innocent, why have the trash at Politico deleted it?

I'm a liberal democrat, and a traditional feminist (not in the Kim Gandy mold), 47 years old, the mother of a daughter, who has been losing faith in her party for several years now. A bit over ten years back, I started feeling that the women's movement, as it had trended, was no longer relevant to the majority of women that I knew. I never felt that my party would cave in to the far left, most democrats do not support that extreme. Of course, democratic politicians have also caved in to corrupt corporate interests, and are colluding with them to destroy our economy, and betray the citizenry. The far left have shown themselves not to be against corporate interests, especially when those corporate interests are working to destroy our once proud nation. Perhaps they assume that if the poorest among us are made to suffer enough, we'll finally be willing to be used in their long dreamed of "revolution".
I've been on the fence over the election, have never voted for a republican in my life. I've felt that Obama was not the candidate for me, not because of his race, I'm a woman of color, part Wampanoag (indigenous tribe), part Cape Verdean. When I've listened to Obama, I've felt that he plays games with words, that he's not speaking honestly. I've also felt concerned about his relationships with corrupt and criminal individuals.
I am not wild about John McCain because of his stance on amnesty and open borders, I won't make any bones about that.. but I've been impressed by Gov. Palin, and I admit to feeling extremely offended by the snide attacks against her, and I'm feeling that I could vote for the ticket, based on her being a part of it, and I don't feel that I'm the only democratic woman who feels that way.

I was going to vote for McCain, but after seeing what type of executive decisions he makes, I've voting for Bob Barr. This choice shows me that John McCain is unfit to lead.
I've had enough with fake conservatives.
I've had it with the Republican Party, too.

Hmmm. A Social Security Number without the last four digits is ... SEVEN RANDOM FREAKING NUMBERS, IDIOT!
You might want to look into obtaining a clue: you are seriously deficient in that area.

And by "SEVEN RANDOM FREAKING NUMBERS, IDIOT!", I mean "FIVE RANDOM FREAKING NUMBERS, IDIOT!", which changes almost nothing about my thesis that there is a relatively large number (S. Palin's SSN is one of almost ten thousand sharing the first five digits, and also that the original poster was an inflammatory idiot.
I believe that part is still undisputed.

Politico isn't run by liberals. I don't know who photoshopped this. I'm a progressive woman, and, though I won't be voting for Palin, I abhor any sexist/demeaning attacks on her and her family.

There are a combination of 10,000 different combinations.
10 choices for the first number
10 choices for the second number
10 for the third
10 choices for the 4th
Another way to look at it is this: 0-9999. There are 10,000 different numbers there.

Wow... Didn't take long for the haters to begin the attacks here, huh? Stop attacks on Roe v Wade? Maybe you should read how the woman involved in the case feels about it now, Cristina! And PalinSux (how original!!), when will we be getting Joe Biden's redacted social security number? And why is ANY PART of her number been released at all?? Where is all that liberal EVASION OF PRIVACY dribble that you guys love to spout when someone has the temerity to ask one of your candidates some thing as small as a DIFFICULT QUESTION.

SS# - the first 5 numbers of your SS# are the most sensitive since companies and entities, including our Fed, State and local governments, frequently use the last four for ID purposes. Therefore, any tech-savy Cook County, IL, Al Capone like Dem hack can probably connect the previously released 5 numbers with the remaining 4 and voila, her complete SS#.

Dude, you're clueless. You know how long it'd take a computer to sort through those 'whopping' 10K combos and obtain a 'hit' on her full number?... about zero-point-five seconds. This ain't like trying to crack an encrypted file that uses 256-bit encryption and brute-forcing your way through a mountain of prime numbers... it's a simple linear search.
As well, as ADKConservative posted, the -typical- use-case for SSN's is -last-four-digits- (info that is fairly easy to obtain in many public records). So... yes, coupled with the now-released first 5 digits, her full SSN is out in the open.
Side-track:
The dems attacking this woman for daring to have a *gasp* -family- and a -career-!!... is just laughable. What the hell was the "Women's Movement" all about if not -exactly- this!? All this bashing proves is that those on 'that side' are empty-suit, hot-air spewing hypocrites.
Send -all- women home who dare have children and jobs then! LOL (of course I'm just kidding). It's interesting that no one spewed diddly over Hillary working all that time on 'Health Care Reform' when good ol' Chelsea was living at home. I also wonder if Hillary was working at her law firm when Chelsea was a baby?... Of -course- she was!.. duh!

As Jennifer comment #5 states: "I've been on the fence over the election, have never voted for a republican in my life."
As Senator Joe Lieberman stated last night: "So tonight, I ask you whether you are an independent, a Reagan Democrat or a Clinton Democrat, or just a Democrat: This year, when you vote for president, vote for the person you believe is best for the country, not for the party you happen to belong to."
Vote your conscience, not your party!

Wow. Up to last week, I was actually planning on voting for Obama. I'm a registered democrat and I have always been proud to be a Southern Democrat.
...But over the last 5 days, I've grown ashamed of my party. The democrats seem much too concerned with Palin's family, that they have forgotten the millions of families of America. I don't know what to say about the Democrats smear tactics.
I also found that after listening to Lieberman's speech last night, I challenged myself to look outside the democratic box and look at the issues.
Sitting back, watching the actions of the Democrats - I've grown embarrassed. If Palin is so inexperienced and such a horrible pick, why are they wasting their time trying to debate her and smear her? STICK TO THE ISSUES THAT ARE EFFECTING AMERICA!
As much as I wish we could have another Bill Clinton, I'm sad to say that Obama is just a fraud. I'd much rather vote for McCain and then cross my fingers that a worthy Democrat will run in 2012 - who once again, will make me proud to be a democrat.
-Andrew, North Carolina

Get a clue yourself, sweetie. Most bank and credit card statements, and health insurance records and programs display the last four digits, as do military assigment rosters. Duh!

Christina: So you don't want to overturn Roe v. Wade which means essentially that you want to use abortion as your method of birth control for your own irresponsibility. Obama voted to kill a bill that would have provided care to a baby that survived the botched abortion. Instead, these babies now are thrown in a medical waste room to die a horrorible lonely slow death. Think about that when you vote for Obama and what you allow happen to children.
