Sarah Palin's Historic Speech at the Convention (with video) - 37 million viewers vs. Biden 24 million

Calling Joe Biden

Huckabee
Sarah Palin got more votes running for Mayor of Wasilla than Joe Biden got running for President.

Rudy
In the state senate, more than 130 times he couldn't make a decision. He couldn't decide to vote yes... or to vote no. It was too tough. He voted present.

For President of the United States, it not good enough to be present.

He was in the US senate. He spent most of his time as a celebrity Senator.

He's never had to lead people in crisis.

He is the least experienced candidate for president in at least the last 100 years.

Barack Obama has never led nothing. nada... nothing.

Sarah Palin has more executive experience than the Democratic ticket combined.

I'm sorry that Obama thinks her hometown is not cosmopolitan enough. Maybe they cling to religion there.

Sarah Palin
I'm from a small town.

They are that ones that send their kids off to war.

They love their country in good times and bad.

They are always proud of America.

I was a small town mayor. It's sort of like a community organizer, except they have actual responsibilities.

As Governor, I got rid of a few things I didn't think our citizens should have to pay for. That luxury jet was over the top. ... I put it on eBay.

This is a man [Obama] who has authored two memoirs, but not a single law.

This is a man who can talk about Iraq, and never use the word "victory", except when he's talking about his own campaign.

When the campaign is over... and they take away those styrofoam Greek columns...

Some candidates use change to promote their careers, and there are some candidates who use their careers to promote change.

John McCain is not looking for a fight, but he sure isn't afraid of one either.

My fellow citizens, the American Presidency is not supposed to be a journey of personal discovery.

Calling Joe Biden... Calling Joe Biden

30 million People Watched "Stunning" Performance

The Sun's article, Palin strikes back at critics says:
A WEEK ago nobody had ever heard of her.

Today she is the most talked-about woman in the world. And with good reason.

This speech has turned the election upside down. It was simply stunning.

Full of self-assurance and aggression, she popped Barack's balloon big-time.

And it was seen by 30 million voters – the greatest number ever to watch a candidate for the much-derided VP post.

Keep up the good work.
I can't agree with you on the book/library thing, 1st amendment and all. Work on that.

I am really sad for America. I don't think conservatives and progressives will ever get along again. I was hoping Palin would take the high road in her speech, but for those of you conservatives who complain that dems fight dirty, she went after a candidate's spouse. Even though that candidate agreed that family should be left out of campaigning. I have little hope for us I'm going to have to pray long and hard for our country's spirit.

brownstocking,
I see things a little differently. I look to us to solve the divisiveness problem, not to our politicians. I expect them to fight during a campaign. Much of their argument helps us to select for whom we will vote. I'd add that it's not a new problem. Division, for example, prior to the civil war was very violent. Have a look at the confrontation between Representative Preston Brooks and Senator Charles Sumner.
Many of my friends are liberals and have very different views. Just yesterday a Catholic friend revealed that he is staunchly pro-choice. We discussed the issue sincerely and without name calling. At the conclusion of one of his points, he quoted Star Trek (I think) in saying that he would always be my friend.
On some issues we hold very different positions. However, our respect for each other and perhaps our assumptions that the positions are not held for the wrong reasons helps us to avoid division. President Bush, Vice President Gore, or Governor Palin did not help us to develop those appreciations, nor would I expect them to. I see politicians' role as to serve voters and not necessarily to change voters.
That said, I do hold your concern about division. I don't see similar root causes, but the common ground of concern is there.

Best.

Browstocking - keep citing those liberal talking points! How about arguing with anything she said? Can't fight the facts!
I don't see how you (and the media) can compare Sarah's allusion to Michele Obama's PUBLIC speech in SUPPORT of Barack Obama with the media's dredging up false stories about "is Sarah's baby really..." and running stories about Bristol Palin's moral failings, etc.

I don't see a possibility of reconciliation between the party extremes. They exist because there is a real metaphysical divide they represent, two fundamentally different views of reality. One is grounded in the notion that God exists and has made even the smallest and weakest humans among us a noble creature made in His image, and that therefore His truth has a primary role in our moral-self-governance. The other is grounded in the notion that all truth is self-manufactured, especially moral truth, and that the supreme good, whatever that is, can therefore never be more than a form of intelligent selfishness. God save us from the latter. Palin has shown she holds to the former. That is the root of her threat to the left, and the glimmer of hope she has provided to the right. Bring it on.

So I guess it's this way. If a democrat is attacked or asked to answer questions about his past/name/associations...he doesn't have to answer and it is unfair-wahhhhhhh wahhhhhhh.
And if a republican has her family dragged through the mud and comes out hitting hard ON THE ISSUES instead of whining somehow she is BAD????
Grow up and quit using Obama's talking points people.
This woman has some guts, something no one seems to have in the democratic party.

So why are we still after Sarah Palin?....is it because she laid out the facts of why John McCain will be a far better president that good ole Obama...who has done what?!....oh right...absolutely nothing.....right along side is liberal congress who has done the same with him....oh yeah...they have done one thing......blame everything on our President! I'm sorry but i'll take someone who is literally a war hero and served his country over a do nothing but complain liberal any day of the week.
Give em hell Sarah!

Frankly, I like Governor Palin BETTER than McCain! Wasn't sure how to vote, but she's won me over.
As for her daughter's supposed "moral failings" - puh-lease. Whose kids don't make mistakes? She's a kid. Last time I looked Bill Clinton and John Edwards were posing as grownups. What about their "moral failings".
