Gwen Ifill, VP debate moderator, could make millions on her Obama book, pulls race card when caught.
Her Obama Book is due to be released on Inauguration Day 2009. So, she stands to gain financially if Obama gets elected.
She could potentially lose millions of dollars if McCain and Palin win the election.
She admits not telling the McCain campaign or the Debate Commission about this book and her potential windfall and conflict of interest.
The host of PBS'"Washington Week" and senior correspondent on "The NewsHour" said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book.
She gets caught, then pulls the race card first.
"Do you think they made the same assumptions about Lou Cannon (who is white) when he wrote his book about Reagan?" said Ifill, who is black. Asked if there were racial motives at play, she said, "I don't know what it is. I find it curious."
Update: 10/1/2008 9:39 PM HotAir.com's Ed Morrissey in Ifill: I never told the Commission about the book says
With a financial stake in the election’s outcome, Ifill shouldn’t even be conducting interviews of the candidates, let alone moderating a debate.
Update: 10/2/2008 11:36 AM HotAir.com's Ed Morrissey is still on top of this in CJR: Yes, Ifill has a conflict of interest points out that even Obama's Columbia Journalism Review thinks Ifill has a conflict of interest
There appears, to us, to be a conflict in Ifill moderating tomorrow night’s vice presidential debate. Here’s why:
- Ifill’s upcoming book is called “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.” It, apparently, “surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians [like Newark Mayor Corey Booker and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick] forging a bold new path to political power.”
- The book apparently will be published on January 20th, 2009, Inauguration Day.
- It stands to reason that a book with such a title would sell better if a certain person is inaugurated on that day.
We’d like to hear from Ifill.
Update: 10/2/2008 02:59 PM Iowahawk injects a little humor with Ifill Ethics Commission Clears Ifill
As expected, a blue ribbon panel from the Ifill Center for Media Ethics cleared award-winning political journalist Gwen Ifill of all charge today, ending a lengthy 20 minute investigation into "ethics" charges that most observers believe were motivated by politics and racism. Ifill, like dynamic groundbreaking President-in-Waiting Barack Obama, is Black. The complete exoneration clears the way for Ifill to moderate the Vice Presidential debate tonight between respected Senate veteran Joe Biden and former beauty pageant loser Sarah Palin.
