It looks like Obama is going to skip his Grandmother's funeral. She died last Sunday. His campaign says he will visit Hawaii in December. Instead of going to Hawaii this weekened, he is staying home in Chicago all weekend "so he can rest".
The media is hiding this. This is really disgusting.
The Honolulu Advertiser says
President-elect Barack Obama will visit Hawai'i in December to honor his grandmother "Toot," who died two nights before the election, and to relax with his family before he takes the reins of the federal government in January.
Obama planned to stay home in Chicago this weekend... so that he can rest.
Update: 12/23/2008 Finally, 51 days later on December 23rd, after enjoying golf, a workout, and swimming in Hawaii, plus several other weekends off playing basketball and working out, Obama is honoring his Grandmother.
I can't imagine waiting this long to honor my grandmother.
The Obamas will step away from their beach vacation here to attend a private memorial service for Madelyn Dunham, who lived in a modest Hawaii apartment and died of cancer at age 86 on the eve of the presidential election.
The friends and co-workers of Ms. Dunham would not wait until December, but instead, arranged for a public ceremony on November 14, 2008.
Obama tried to downplay the event and the fact that both he and his sister were not attending.
"This was not a family memorial or a funeral service. It was a public goodbye tribute hosted by people she worked with in Hawaii," an Obama transition official said of the ceremony, held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
