GOP Used Barracuda Song Illegally

Singers in the rock group Heart, Ann and Nancy Wilson, are angry that it's 70s hit Barracuda is being used as the unofficial theme song for the Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

The singers issued a "cease and desist" letter asking the Republicans not to use the song.

They say the song was used without permission.

The Truth

McCain Campaign Paid for Barracuda License in Advance

All licenses for the song were obtained and paid for in advance in the normal channels.
The McCain campaign said it had obtained the appropriate licenses to play the song.

Spokesman Brian Roger said, "The McCain campaign respects intellectual property rights. Accordingly, prior to using 'Barracuda' at any events, we paid for and obtained all necessary licenses."

Copyright law may not be on the Wilsons' side.

One of the song's cowriters, Roger Fisher, said he was "thrilled" that the song was used.
